Week 9

This extended trip with a focus on learning the Spanish language revealed to me one of my favorite things about my time in Segovia, and Europe in general: I have a true passion for language, whether it’s English, French, Spanish, Swedish, or something else. What I have enjoyed most about being here, and visiting other countries like France and the Netherlands, has been immersing myself in different cultures and their languages. In the activities I pursue (not just seeing the biggest tourist attraction, but seeking out where the locals go with an intention to make connections), to trying to pick up as many words as I can in my short weekend trips, I relish learning other languages. I’ve gotten back into journaling during my time here as well; I recently went back to read through my journal, this edition which has entries beginning over two years ago. This practice reminded me of the worth of taking my time with writing, as I truly impressed myself with how thoughtful (and at times perhaps poetic) my word choices were to describe my day to day activities and feelings over the years.
