Week 12

It’s the end of my last full week here! Now that it’s reaching the end, it feels like time has flown. I think that’s a good sign; I truly feel like I have made the most of my time here, from traveling, forming new friendships, strengthening existing ones, immersing myself in culture and learning the language. I’ve been studying every day this week preparing for finals.

In addition, I wanted to do something nice for our professors and my host family to thank them for their hard work. I got each of my professors and my host family an individual card, all of which I wrote a heartfelt message on in Spanish. I then got some art supplies and made a giant card for my all of the professors that I organized the other students to get together to sign. I think the professors will love it, and I am excited to showcase our appreciation for them.

I also had the opportunity to meet my host grandparents. This was a very special interaction, since the grandmother, Julia, has Alzheimers. I felt very touched that my host mother trusted me to spend the day with her parents despite their poor health and the complications of caring for an elder afflicted with memory issues. It was a very sweet interaction, and I enjoyed my time with the whole family as we went out to a cafe and walked around the town to get Julia some exercise.

In other news, have my finals this coming week, which I studied for with the goal of earning “A’s” on all of them. Wish me luck!
